DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Furazolidone is an antibacterial, possessing both bacteriostatic and bacteriocidal properties. It is active against various gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria pathogenic to fishes. It is indicated for the control of Aeromonas salmonicida (furunculosis) and other bacterial pathogens. Furazolidone has also been shown to have an inhibitory effect on spore formation of the sporozoan Myxosoma, when administered orally.

TREATMENT PROCEDURES AND DOSAGE:
BATH . As a treatment for minor external skin infections, use as a bath at a concentration of from 5 to 25 ppm (mg/L), depending on the severity of infection. Repeat the dosage every 24 hours with a partial water change before re-treatment. Continue the treatment for a minimum of 5 to 7 days or until complete cessation of mortalities. To achieve the recommended dosage level, use one (1) level teaspoon for each 36 to 180 gallons (18.9 to 94.6 mg/gal). For accuracy and reproducibility of results, this drug should be measured by weight. However, because of its relative safety in aquariums, it can be measured out in teaspoonfuls when treating small volumes of water.

ORAL . For the treatment of systemic infections, Furazolidone can be added to the food at the rate of 0.025 to 0.075 mg per gram of body weight per day, (depending on the severity of the infection), for up to 20 days. Calculate the quantity of food the fish are likely to consume in 20 days. Using a treatment level of 0.5 to 1.5 mg for each gram of body weight, weigh out the drug, add to the food weight previously calculated, moisten with a small quantity of water and mix. Allow to dry before feeding. Feed one 20th of the food, once per day.
