CARING FOR LIVE FISH FOODS

KPD-75
The following is information that will help you in keeping these animals alive and active while using them as food for your fishes . These animals have been in their special Breathing Bags ® for several days prior to your receiving them. With proper care they can remain alive and active for another 2 to 6 weeks or even longer.

After purchasing the Sachets, place them under refrigeration as soon as possible. Arrange them so that as much air as possible circulates around the bags. Without refrigeration, these animals will live from 3 to 5 days at 80°F (32°C) and for 6 to 7 days at 70°F (22°C). Under refrigeration (approximately 40-50°F, 5-10°C), these animals can remain alive appreciably longer. Their length of survival in the refrigerator greatly depends on its cleanliness. If anything in decomposing in the refrigerator, the toxic organic gasses will enter the breathing bags and kill the animals inside.

Based upon responses from hobbyists, the following procedures are highly recommended:
Purchase only what you expect to use in one week.
Do not place the bags in water; these are air-breathable bags and submerging them in water will suffocate the animals inside.

After rinsing through a net and feeding to the fish, the remaining animals (with the exception of brine shrimp) can be placed in a non-toxic container of freshly prepared water (refer to the end of this paragraph) and placed in the refrigerator. Treat the water with NovAqua ® to remove chlorine and copper. When stored in the refrigerator in this manner, the animals can live a week or more. Note that brine shrimp should be placed in a container of brine water. To create the brine water, mix 2 level tablespoons of non-iodized salt (or a suitable saltwater mix) to one pint of dechlorinated tap water. Kordon's AmQuel ® or NovAqua will dechlorinate the water.
