PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

KORDON's ALGAE CLEANING MAGNETS are a unique application of modern magnet technology for dealing with the old persistant problem of every aquarist - algae and slime build up on the aquarium glass. Now, without wetting the hands, algae and slime can be cleaned on the inside of the aquarium - from the outside.

KORDON ALGAE CLEANING MAGNETS are a simple, yet effective method for keeping the inside panels of a glass aquariuim clean (see CAUTION below concerning plastic aquaria). A set of CLEANING MAGNETS contains two special ceramic magnets, encased in plastic, each with a soft wiping surface on one side.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

By placing both magnets simultaneously on any panel of the aquarium, one inside the aquarium and the other opposite on the outside, the two magnets "lock" together and the inner magnet can be directed by moving the outer magnet. For cleaning, the soft pads are faced toward each other with the glass panel between them. The outside magnet can then be moved in any direction along the panel and the inside magnet will instantly follow, scrubbing off algae and debris. With a little practice, the magnets can be manipulated around corners and even be overturned. When the inner magnet is overturned, the algae clinging to the soft pad offers the fishes an additional source of food. If too much algae or debris accumulates on the pad, the magnet can be removed and subsequently cleaned by flushing the pad briskly with water. The magnets are most effective on glass up to about 1/4" (6 mm) in thickness, which includes most aquaria up to 30 gallons in size. The inside magnet can be left in the aquarium water indefinitely without deterioration of the magnet or harm to the fishes. The bristle pads will probably last longer if the inside unit is removed from the water, and cleaned and dried between uses. The magnet cases have been ultrasonically sealed, so they should not be opened. The CLEANING MAGNETS can be stored magnetically clamped to each other, or can be put out of the way on any steel surface, such as the side of a refrigerator or stove. Also, they are handy as "kitchen magnets" for holding notes.

The effectiveness of KORDON CLEANING MAGNETS are increased when used with KORDON's AQUARIUM CLEANSER, which is like using a household abrasive cleanser suited to aquarium use that has the advantages of being nontoxic to all aquatic life, and that does not need to be rinsed away (it is biodegraded in the aquarium by bacterial action). KORDON AQUARIUM CLEANSER is an all-purpose scrubbing cleaner for aquariums, and is effective for the removal of "lime" deposits that build up along the water's edge in freshwater and marine aquaria. AQUARIUM CLEANSER is nontoxic to fishes, invertebrates and plants; it can be used safely while the water, fish, invertebrates and plants remain in the tank. It can be sprinkled on the wet scrubbing surface of the cleaning magnet used inside the aquarium. The inside cleaning magnet is then used as the "applicator" of the cleanser and "cleaning brush" to clean the glass surface. KORDON's AQUARIUM CLEANSER does not scratch the glass, but the following warning should be heeded concerning the use of the ALGAE CLEANING MAGNETS. In normal usage the KORDON CLEANING MAGNETS will not scratch glass. However, care should be exercised when using the magnets to clean near the bottom of the tank, because the pads can pick up particles of sand which can scratch the glass.

Besides being efficient for cleaning algae, etc., off aquarium glass the KORDON CLEANING MAGNETS are effective as a versatile algae feeder for fishes and aquatic invertebrates. Algae is an important part of the diet for many kinds of fishes and invertebrates, particularly those that are herbivores (plant-life eaters) and omnivores (those eating both plant and animal food), which include most animals kept in aquaria. Many fishes and invertebrates find it diffcult to feed on the algae on the surfaces in the aquarium, because they do not have the right mouth structures for scraping. After the aquarist uses the KORDON CLEANING MAGNETS to scrape off the algae from the aquarium glass, the magnets can be turned over so that the inside scraper faces inward within the aquarium. The algae on the bristles are now readily available as food for the aquarium inhabitants, which quickly learn to nibble the algae from the scraper.

Fish foods (such as those flaked, freeze-dried, and frozen) can be prepared into a paste and pressed into the bristles of the cleaning pad. The bristles will hold the food under water. By keeping the bristle pad of the inner magnet facing into the aquarium, it can be maneuvered by the outside magnet into position to bring the fish to the front of the aquarium to feed. In addition, the magnet feeder can be maneuvered into corners or sides of the aquarium where shy fishes and invertebrates can be fed. Bottom feeders, such as catfishes and loaches, can be fed by bringing the feeder down next to the gravel.

DESCRIPTION
The KORDON CLEANING MAGNETS consist of a matched pair of hollow plastic cases, each containing a strong nontoxic magnet supported by a sponge pad. Both magnets have the scrubbing surfaces covered by dense long-lasting plastic fiber bristles, which serve as a general purpose algae and slime cleaners. Either magnet case can be used in the water.

REPLACEMENT PADS
The scrubbing pads will give long service. When they become worn out they can be easily and inexpensively replaced. Self-adhesive Replacement Pads can be purchased by KORDON dealers. If your dealers do not carry them, the Pads can be ordered from KORDON. The Item number is 64990. (Refer to the Kordon Price List)

CAUTION ABOUT USE WITH PLASTIC AQUARIA
KORDON ALGAE CLEANING MAGNETS are not recommended for use on plastic aquariums, such as acrylic. Although the magnet pads will not themselves scratch plastic, they can pick up grains of sand or fine particles which will scratch plastic. Scratches in plastic, even deep ones, can be removed by using plastic polishing compounds. These special compounds are available from outlets specializing in plastics. To remove scratches, first empty the water, then dry the tank and buff, following instructions on the polishing compound's label.

Clean the aquarium thoroughly (making certain the residues from any cleaners used are removed) before resetting up the aquarium. Chlorine residue from the use of chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite) cleaning chemicals can be removed by Kordon's AmQuel® and NovAqua®, both of which are recommended for use in setting up an aquarium.
